So much has happened since our last newsletter, including summer tournaments, team matches, Open Day, Finals Day, Junior Tournament Day, various BBQs, junior camps… SO MUCH. So let’s have a read about just a snippet of the goings-on at HWLTC in our Autumn newsletter.
Our Men's Singles finalists have been itching to finish their Final after ending it on 6-4 before the rain got too unbearable to play in on Finals Day, and on Saturday 12 August, they finally got the chance to do so. Congratulations to Henry on becoming Men's Singles champion, claiming his first Harrow Weald title in style by coming back from one set down to beat Simon 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Simon and Danny are our new Men's Doubles champions, beating Lewis and Kevin in a final full of volley rallies, crosscourt winners and smashes. The final result was 7-5, 6-7, 10-3 - the final chapter ending in a championship tiebreak, as agreed by all participants, as the lights were soon to fade.
The rain held out on Thursday night for our Mixed Doubles Final and we bear news of our Mixed Doubles champions: congratulations to Kevin and Julia who beat Boris and Steph 6-3 6-2!
Thanks to all that came to our Finals Day on Saturday 22 July, bearing sandwiches, cakes and cheer! Unfortunately there was little tennis due to the rain, for the first time in many many years, and the majority of finals have been rearranged - but we did have some tasty food.
On Sunday 16 July, the day Roger Federer claimed his historic eighth Wimbledon, some of our juniors took to the court to compete in finals of their own - and what a great day it was! Take a look at some of our pictures...
We're holding an Open Day this Sunday, the middle Sunday of Wimbledon, featuring lots of fun and games for all standards and ages. Whether you're new to tennis, are part of another club, have moved to the area, play another sport, or are just getting back into the game, you can come try out our 4 artificial grass courts and hard court (with mini tennis lines), talk to our coaches and try the rest of our facilities, including a fully licensed bar and a kitchen full of tea and cake. Come join the fun at Harrow Weald Lawn Tennis Club!
Bring on the summer tennis season – we’ve prepped the grounds, the team matches are arranged and we’re ready to get started! In our latest newsletter, you’ll be able to find out more about improvements in the Club, team matches, HWLTC and coaching opportunities, and social dates. Read all about it in our Spring 2017 newsletter online.
We've got a couple of great Easter activities for members lined up over the Easter weekend, including a chance to be part of our tennis community by helping to get the grounds ready for the summer tennis season, and some friendly competition in the first of our American tournaments of the year.
